Sophie Milburn Handbuilt Stoneware is coiled or pinched and then burnished with polished stones. It is packed in a saggar filled with sawdust and fired in a reduced atmosphere to 1270 degrees Centigrade. Egyptian paste is a soda based clay on which the glaze forms as it dries. Fish, animals and plant designs are cut out and pressed onto a clay base. The jewellery is made in a similar way but rolled in the hand and then fired on nichrome wire to 980 degrees. Sophie normally has work available for purchase, including pots, mirrors, tiles, necklaces and earrings. She accepts commissions. Visitors are welcome but please ring first. Sophie trained at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts. She is a member of the Suffolk Craft Society and the East Anglian Potters Association. Contact Sophie on 01728 660 438 or email sophie@oldvicaragesibton.co.uk. |
