Alice Palser Alice makes ceramics by hand building - slab rolling, pinching, coiling and press moulding. Ware is biscuit fired then dipped in a white tin glaze and majolica painted. Oxides and underglaze colours mixed with glaze are then painted directly onto the freshly applied glaze and fired to 1080-1140 degrees. Sculptures are made in a high fired biscuit terracotta, fired to 1160 degrees with oxides applied to textures or painted with slip and decorated. Sometimes these are smoked after the kiln firing. Stoneware clay is also used occasionally - mainly basic glazes over impressed or applied decoration. Among work usually available are garden faces, sculptures, fountains, slim figurines, plates, fruit dishes, candlesticks and tiles. Alice takes commissions for tiles - decorated with figures, flowers, fruit, birds, fish. Alice studied fine art at Hornsey College of Art and at the Slade. She is self taught as a ceramicist. She joined the Suffolk Craft Society in 1987 and exhibits widely, sometimes through the Suffolk Craft Society and the CCA in Cambridge. Contact Alice on 01986 874 078. |
